what are some ultra violet waves that are useful and sum ways they are dangerous?

Describe the ozone layer and why damage to the ozone layer could be harmful.

What are some ultra violet waves that are useful and sum ways they are dangerous?
ultraviolet light is essential for your skin to make vitamin D.

but it's also the cause of pyrimidine dimers. the light causes the DNA in your skins cells to make chemical bonds that it shouldn't be making, and when your skin cells replicate and divide, the damaged DNA may not replicate properly, leading to mutation and possible skin cancer.

ozone (O3), will absorb high frequency UV rays, using the energy to turn into oxygen gas. without it, these harmful UV rays will hit you and give you skin cancer.

Reply:do violet but put

it on pretty light

becuz if you have

a pale skin complexion,

you wouldnt want the

eyeshadow to over-

power your face. i

think it will look very

pretty :) love; malorie.
Reply:I would also use a natural tone (beige or shimmery skin tone) instead of matching colour. But I would use a plum (or dark raisin) eye liner - very thin line, nothing exaggerated and nice brown-black mascara. Good luck!
Reply:Violet or a pastel pink would look nice and compliment your dress. If you opt for a pink you could get a lipstick to match.

What colour shoes and handbag are you having?
Reply:You could just simply use a black liner, and a neutral - off white, cream, light beige eye shadow over all the eye lid and charcoal grey or black on the lower part of the lid for more depth.
Reply:something that has a bit of sparkle that doesnt stray too far from your skin tone. in other words a shimmery skin colored shade. it will be pretty and natural looking but not WOW-LOOK AT MY PURPLE EYESHADOW! ya know?!
Reply:browns, gold, or greens or a combination of them
Reply:Violet to match your dress. Don't go over the top with it though. Just pop a bit under your eyes.
Reply:lavender or pink..:) silver will do too

What to do with cuttings from an African Violet?

I have three cuttings from an African Violet that I would like to plant in a pot. I just cut them today. I put them all in one little dish with water in it. Do I change the water every day? every week? When? Thank you!

What to do with cuttings from an African Violet?
You do not have to change the water unless you notice it is smelling bad. As soon as you see little roots, you can plant the violet cuttings.
Reply:Plant each leaf in violet potting soil and keep moist they will take root if you pot them now.
Reply:Because they are so fiberous they can rot in straight water.

Purchase some "Rootone" and dip the cutting in the powder then place the cutting in moist African Violet media or other light soil.. Do not drown it...just keep evenly moist. How often to water will depend on your humidity, light and heat.

You should see roots in 3 weeks.

Can I use african violet plant food for regular plants?

I have a whole tub of african violet plant food and no african violets.I have plenty of other plants,Can I use the african violet food on them?Thanks.

Can I use african violet plant food for regular plants?
Oh yes. You can use it on most blooming plants. However, Miracle Grow is even better.
Reply:call your local greenhouse and ask. certain plants, such as african violets, take different food then other plants because they need something that is more acidic or more basic or that has different nutrients. while it might be ok for some plants, it might burn the roots of others. so just call and they'll be able to tell you.
Reply:all plants like food in small portions,use it
Reply:Yes, don't use the full amount that it directs you to use on a violet. I would use 1/2. I have done this with rose food and indoor plant food (used it outdoors).

Violet being the color with least wavelength why does sky appears in a blue color?

The reason given for sky's bluish color is that it has very less wavelength.But Violet has very less wavelength compared to blue .Then why does the sky does not appear in a violet color but in a blue color?

Violet being the color with least wavelength why does sky appears in a blue color?
The sky actually IS violet if you were to measure the spectrum of the light. As you mentioned, lower wavelengths are affected more by Raleigh Scattering (~ 1/wavelength^4), so violet would be scattered even more than blue light. The human eye has peak sensetivity at 540nm, which is a nice shade of green. Our eyes are more sensetive to the blue in the atmosphere than the violet, so thats what we see.
Reply:Because God is a genuis.
Reply:Because the sun's light peaks at yellow. There's more blue than violet in sunlight to start with. And our vision (having evolved in sunlight) is most sensitive to yellow light, so we see the sky as blue. That said, if you look at a clear sky in a direction exactly perpendicular to the sun, it does look a bit indigo.
Reply:Blue is a pleasant Heavenly color. Would you have prefered to have created a yelow sky of a brown sky? or a cimetary color like violet?All we know is that the sky is flourescent and it apppears that the atmospheres is blue.However the air is really colorless.
Reply:There is significantly less violet than blue in sunlight.
Reply:When the rays pass in our atmosphere you see blue because blue has the shortest wave length.
Reply:when light enters the earth's atmosphere, light gets scattered. scattering of light is inversely proportional to inverse of fourth power of wavelength according to rayleigh's law of scattering. when sun is on the zenith, light has to travel minimum distance of the atmosphere, thus blue.which has less wavelength gets scattered. at horizons light as to cover maximum distance hence the the red light, which has maximum wavelength, gets scattered.Due to this sun appears red during sunrise and sunset.
Reply:Because violet is spectrally pure color.

The sky doesn't appear in blue either.

Blue color of sky is not actually spectrally pure blue.

Blue color of sky is light blue.

Where is a site that shows a list (with pictures) of different African Violet varieties?

I at one time had the perfect site for identifying some of my violets whenever I bought new ones. After my computer died months ago, I lost the site in my favorites and can't even remember what it was called. I am looking for a site that gives details on MANY varieties. (Not the Optimira site, The Violet Barn, or the African Violet Society) Help will be much appreciated!

I think this is what you need:

How do I get rid of crystal violet stains on clothing?

I was in school doing an experiment, and some crystal violet dye splashed onto my shirt. I have been trying to wash it, but the stains wouldn't come off. This is my favorite shirt =(

How do I get rid of crystal violet stains on clothing?
Wouldnt acetone or alcohol soak it out? Try that.... usually these dyes are alcohol washable.... lemme double check for you though...

Yeah:

The first two stains – crystal violet and iodine – form a purple complex within the cells.

The decolorization step with ethanol is not able to wash the purple complex out of Gram positive

cells because they have thick cell walls. Therefore, the cells are purple at the end of the procedure,

i.e., Gram positive. If the cells are old or stressed (by, for example, heat or cold) their cell walls thin,

and the crystal–violet iodine complex is washed out. Iodine (the mordant) is essential; without

iodine, the crystal violet is rapidly removed from Gram positive cells.

So hopefully your shirt is not gram positive, and alcohol will soak it out!!! :))
Reply:use lemon juice. must work 100%

How long does it take for African violet leaf to grow roots?

I recently got African Violet for my office, and I cut one leaf out and put it in warm water.

How long will it take to grow roots?

(I'm in Los Angeles, CA and the sun is pretty warn these days. day time temperature is about 77 degrees)

How long does it take for African violet leaf to grow roots?
You should see little roots in a couple of weeks. I have even cut a leaf with stem attached and planted it in dirt and in about a month or so you will see new growth. Once I got started doing this I ended up with so many new plants I had to start giving them away. Good Luck

How to get rid of little flies in my African Violet?

My African Violet has little flies - maybe the fungus gnats or fruit flies others have mentioned. I know Violets are delecate plants - so is there a product out there (or a natural remedy) safe for Violets? Thanks!

How to get rid of little flies in my African Violet?
I hate those things! And before you know it your swatting them all over the house. I'll tell you my little trick for this problem. Get a small bowl, I use a white custard type glass one, put a few drops of dish soap in and fill with water. Place it next to your house plants and start counting the dead bugs every hour. You won't even believe how many of those things are living in there. I've used household insecticide and it doesn't work even close to this method. I just dump it every couple of days and put new water in it. Eventually they'll just kill themselves and you wont have too. Best of all there are no dangerous chemicals around you, your family, or your pet's. Best of Luck!!!
Reply:Check with your Garden Centre or local Nursery...there is a really great "green: product I use that takes care of insects, mites, and fungi all at the same time. I use it on my roses. Unfortuntely, I cannot recall the name of it. But your local Garden Centre or Nursery will know for sure.
Reply:Fungus gnats are usually associated with too-wet soil- checking your watering frequency might help.

In the meantime, look for a sundew (Drosera sp.) and set it next to the violets- in no time, the sundew will be feasting on the gnats...
Reply:This may seem too easy but a layer of sand works wonders. If there are flies living in the soil a half inch of sand will prevent the little buggers from flying all over the place, it rips off the wings so they can't fly. Most soil born insects are there in the first place because of decaying roots, or too much water. African Violets like to water from the bottom and sometimes its hard to tell if your watering them enough. Try watering once a week maybe once every other week to dry the soil out. Someone else suggested re-potting, if the sand doesn't work then that may be your only option, short of tossing it in the compost pile.
Reply:i wish i had the answer. i had the same problem a few weeks ago. i tried repotting with all new soil, washing the pot, and leaving it outside overnight. nothing worked. i finally threw my poor baby out :(
Reply:Try repotting it - try to remove it from the pot and dump the old soil...and gently shake off as much off the roots as possible...clean out the pot, and then repot.
Reply:I'll be curious to see the answer...I have 3 of the plants and my house is full of little flies. YUCK!

The frequency of violet light is about twice that of red light. How does the energy of a violet photon compar

The frequency of violet light is about twice that of red light. How does the energy of a violet photon compare with the energy of a red photon?

The frequency of violet light is about twice that of red light. How does the energy of a violet photon compar
For photons,

E = hf

where h is Plancks constant,

f is the frequency (you might also see it referred to as 'nu' or v), so

E(red) = hf

E(vio) = h(2f)

E(vio) / E(red) = 2

So the energy of violet light is twice that of red.
Reply:Violet photon has a shorter or smaller wavelength and higher frequency and are also higher in energy than red light. A red photon has a larger wavelength, smaller frequency, smaller energy

Hepatitis C Test

Frequency of violet light, the energy of one photon of violet light and the energy of 1 mol of violet protons?

PLEASE HELP with the question below!:

Violet light has a wavelength of about 410 nm. What is its frequency? Calculate the energy of one photon of violet light. What is the energy of 1.0 mol of violet photons? Compare the energy of photons of violet light with those of red light. Which is more energetic?

Frequency of violet light, the energy of one photon of violet light and the energy of 1 mol of violet protons?
for the frequency, the equation to use is c = λν

c = 3.00e8 m/s

λ = 410 nm = 410e-9 m = 4.10e-7 m

3.00e8 m/s = (4.10e-7m)ν

ν = 7.32e14/s

for the energy of one photon

E = hν

h = 6.626e-34 J•s

E = (6.626e-34 J•s)(7.32e14/s)

E=4.85e-19 J

for a mol of photons

(4.85e-19 J/photon)(6.02e23 photons/mol) = 2.92e5 J/mol

red light has a wavelength of ~700 nm, do the calculations the same way

How do I clean crystal violet from a beaker?

I made a solution of crystal violet (gentian violet) in a glass container and it doesn't wash off. What can I use to clean it? If you have safe suggestions (not strong acids or something like that), it would be better. Thanks.

How do I clean crystal violet from a beaker?
Splash some acetone in.

Basically you need to workout what it's soluable in and use that solvent.
Reply:try chloroform or lots of hot water

Violet.....?

Why is it if you ask a hundred different people what colour violet is you will get a hundred different answers? I always believed it to be one of the two kinds of purple in the spectrum, Indigo being the bluer kind while violet is the more REDISH type. Anyone agree?

Violet.....?
I thought it was equal parts blue and purple.
Reply:I have found that Violet is the color of spirituality. It is the color of the crown chakra. This is located on the top of the head.

It is the 7th chakra and Indigo is the color of the 6th spiritual center or commonly called the third eye. In the stone itself. Amethyst comes in two colors. Light purple and dark purple. Dark is male and light is female. Women usually don't handle the dark energy of the Amethyst very well when wearing it.

Rev. TomCat
Reply:Indigo is blue, it has no purple in it. I think you may be thinking of periwinkle, it is light blue with a purple cast to it. I think that Violet is a darker shade of purple with a blue cast.

Here is one of the hundred answerw I guess.
