Violet on the runway and violet by design books.?

I love these two books and can't wait for the 3rd one to come out! anyone know if this is an actual true story and if this is how modeling really works? I kinda thought that Melissa Walker is Violet but I dunno. I think it would be awesome if it came out with a show, kinda like Gossip Girl. please tell me anything else you know about the books and etc.

thanks!

Reply:Hey, guys! This is Melissa, the author. Violet on the Runway isn't a true story, but it's based on lots of what I've seen in the modeling world as a magazine editor.

And I hope it'll be on TV too, one day! Fingers crossed! Report It

Does anyone know where "Violet On The Runway" by Melissa Walker takes place?

I need to know for an english project. I have to make a travel brochure based on the setting.

Tell me if you know where the book takes place because I couldn't find it in the book. If you also know about that place,(once you find the place), give me any information you can about it. Thanks sooooo much! Please help!

Does anyone know where "Violet On The Runway" by Melissa Walker takes place?
That's easy a small town...

Violet Greenfield never aspired to a modeling career. Being famous wasn’t really part of her life plan or anything; she didn’t think she was the modeling type.

But that all changed when a modeling agent from New York City walks into the movie theater where Violet works and tells her that she’s got what it takes to be the new “it” girl. Angela hands over her card, says that Violet should come to New York to jump-start her modeling career. Plain, insecure wallflower Violet. A model, in New York. It sounds crazy, right? Who knew being freakishly tall and skinny could be an asset?

Maybe so, but she’s going anyway.

What makes this book stand out, in my mind, among so many books about life in the spotlight, is that Violet really is a normal teenager. She’s an amazing and memorable character, but a major reason I found her story so memorable is that she is an ordinary girl, from just a few hours away from my town, who suddenly finds herself in a totally opposite world of glitz and glamour as a model in NYC–a world that she quickly finds out is not as glitzy and glamourous as it first appears.

What element produces a violet vapor and an extremely unpleasant odor?

There are few elements on the periodic table with noticeable vapor pressures at room temperature, and four are colored, namely the halogens fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and iodine. Fluorine is yellow, chlorine green, bromine red, and iodine violet-black. So, in lower concentrations of iodine (such as the vapor), it will look violet.

Why are violets blue and not violet?

They have to be blue, otherwise the poem wouldn't rhyme.

Well really some violets are more blue than others, and some are more violet. We just say they are blue more often because of the poem, i suppose.

Why are violets blue and not violet?
Some violets are violet. My yard has blue, white and violet violets.

How long does Violet FX TruColors Lenses last?
well i know i have acuvee color contacts in saphire but they're prescritption so each pair ur only supposed to keep in 2 weeks, so i guess it depends, sorry
Reply:well anything that you put into your body(yes in your eye is in your body) you should get from a licensed professional. To get contacts of any kind you should get them from an optometrist since wearing contacts that dont fit the shape of you eye can cause infection that is not only gross but painful and dangerous.

the average pair of disposable contacts last about 2 weeks.

so ask your optometrist at the time of fitting and prescription.

What is a good violet based toner?

I want a good violet based toner to take my light blonde hair to a white blonde. Manic panic/spx and herbal toners havent worked :( I need to be able to get it in the uk. Help pleaaseeee

What is a good violet based toner?
My hair went very white blonde over the course of three months- i was not trying to get it white or even platinum! I was pearl blonde but when doing my roots i used normal L'Oreal pre-lightening kit at home. After my roots grown again I used it again to do my roots - of course i did not only do my roots but the whole hair and now i am very whiteish colour blonde. THese things take time - i did not even use a toner. However, I use purple shampoo BLONDME from Schwarzkopf i bought on eBay, and I also use Frieda shampoo and conditioner - Blonde Colour renew (purple bottles). Do not leave on too long - 3 minutes is usually maximum or your hair will get purple tint for few days.

Has anyone ever eaten Violet crumble candy bar?

I used to live in Hawaii and they would sell it there now I'm in Californa and I don't see it around. Do they sell it here? Does anyone know?

Has anyone ever eaten Violet crumble candy bar?
Hey,

I've eaten many a Violet Crumble in my life time. Violet Crumbles are made in Australia by Nestle. They are mainly only sold in Australia, although are common in Hawaii. They aren't really sold elsewhere, although you might find an odd one around.

Hope this helps!

Reply:Great stuff - Prior to the Violet Cruble Bar - Aussie Mum's used to make this for their children and also for the local school fetes - they made it in biscuit tins It was made with golden syrup and bicarb I think. It was just called honeycomb - a bit of chocolate on top turned it into Hoadley's Violet Crumble Bar - a great Australian lolly! There was never any problem with freshness. They were very quickly eaten. Fresh is best!

Unfortunately now not Australian but owned by a multinational

History

Abel Hoadley (born September 10, 1844, died May 12, 1918)[1] opened a jam factory in South Melbourne, Victoria, in 1889, trading as A. Hoadley %26amp; Company. By 1895, business had expanded rapidly and Hoadley built a five-storey premises, the Rising Sun Preserving Works. He produced jams, jellies, preserved fruits, candied peels, sauces, and confectionery and employed a workforce as large as 200. By 1901, there were four preserving factories and a large confectionery works. Hoadley had acquired the firm of Dillon, Burrows %26amp; Co. and extended his products to vinegar, cocoa, and chocolate.

In 1910, the jam business was sold to Henry Jones Co-operative Ltd. and in 1913, Hoadley's Chocolates Ltd was formed.

The same year, Hoadley produced his first chocolate assortment and packed them in a purple box decorated with violets. The packaging was in tribute to his wife's favorite colour (purple) and favorite flower (violets). Within the box assortment was a piece of honeycomb that became so popular that Hoadley decided to produce an individual honeycomb bar.

This proved trickier than first thought, because as the pieces of honeycomb cooled, they absorbed moisture and started sticking together. This hygroscopic nature of honeycomb led Hoadley to eventually dip his bars in chocolate, to keep the honeycomb dry and crunchy. Thus, in 1913, the Violet Crumble bar was created.

Hoadley wanted to call his new bar just Crumble, but learned that it was an unprotectable name. He thought of his wife (Susannah Ann née Barrett) and her favorite flower, the violet, and registered the name Violet Crumble, using a purple wrapper with a small flower logo. It was an instant success.

Packaging

The hygroscopic nature of the honeycomb center continued to be problematic. Competitors tried to prove the bars weren't fresh by squeezing them. Hoadley responded by instituting a strict coding system to keep track of the shelf life (12 months) and ensure that only the freshest bars were sold. In addition, he searched worldwide for a new type of airtight wrapper that would keep the bar fresh. Eventually, a French company, La Cellophane, invented a metallized cellophane especially for Violet Crumble.

Now one of the best selling bars in Australia, Violet Crumble still requires great skill and experience in its production. The carefully formulated honeycomb is produced and conveyed into a specially constructed air-conditioned area where it is cut into bars. Then it goes through chocolate enrobing machines, especially designed for Violet Crumble. The bars are double enrobed to seal the honeycomb from the air. Special cooling tunnels take the bars to the automatic wrapping machines, designed in Switzerland. The metallized wrapper is highly moisture proof and special shippers give the product extra protection in shipping.

Timeline

Hoadley's Chocolates made the first Violet Crumble bar in Melbourne in 1913.

In 1972, Hoadley's Chocolates was acquired by Rowntree Company and became known as Rowntree Hoadley Ltd.

In 1988, Nestlé acquired Rowntree Company. The Rowntree chocolate brands were initially branded as Nestlé-Rowntree, until Nestlé dropped the Rowntree altogther
Reply:I've had several Violet Crumbles. They're quite good. They're sold in Australia and the UK. Australia also has the Crunch bar, which is the same as Violet Crumble.

My African violet dries up too quickly?

I have three pots of Africa violets. i had them for 2weeks now, they are all fine and beautifully bloomed. But one of the pots is really dry. i tried watering it from the top (not touching the leaves) but it didn't work. so this morning, I put the pot in the bowl of water and let it sit for about 10 min. The soil feels little wet now. Do you think it'll work or do you think i gave it too much water?

My African violet dries up too quickly?
I am not a horticulturalist, nor a self-proclaimed expert, but I am familiar with african violet.

My grandmother successfully keeps them by watering them through the bottom tray once a week. She fills it up and dumps out any water that hasn't soaked up by the end of the day. Once every month or so she adds a bit of fertilizer to the water.

This way may not be the "recommended" way, but my nan has had the most beautiful and healthy african violets for decades!

Happy watering!
Reply:They will do better in plastic pots. Water from the top hold over the sink and wait till the water comes out the drain hole. Then feel the top a the plant a few days later and see if it is dry again. you might also sit on a bed of rocks and water in a saucer and keep the moisture content up. No really bright sun, you will burn them, East is the best.

Would you wnat or mybe think violet coloured eyes are cool?

I have a unique background adn my skin colour is fairly dark but not as dark as mybe a African American. But lway lighter than that. I have jet black hair and it goes halfway down my back. Do you think it will look good on me? and also answer if you yourself would want or think vioelt coloured eyes are cool?

Would you wnat or mybe think violet coloured eyes are cool?
i think violet eyes would be very cool. how are you gonna get violet coloured eyes though? colour contacts?
Reply:Elizabeth Taylor has violet eyes. I suspect hers are more subtle than most contacts. I think green would be cooler with your coloring
Reply:Clarification: are you considering violet-colored contacts, or are your eyes naturally that way? If your eyes are naturally violet, then it would be amazing. Such a rare color that only a handful of people have; you are very blessed.

But if it's colored contacts you want, you should know they are very easy to spot and don't look natural and that they can also inflame or irritate your eyes or discolor your vision. They'll be especially noticeable-- and not in a good way-- in a more unusual color like violet or your eyes aren't already blue.

Hope this helps.

Some of the higher-end grocery stores such as Trader Joe's of Whole Foods (I know TJS had them in the past). Also, some of the nicer VONS have them.

You might try contacting a local caterer and maybe they would share their source with you?

If you can find the flowers, pick the leaves and wash them thoroughly and you can use them for cooking or an edible garnish.

Why does protein and Biuret reagent change from violet to blue when heated?

You don't need to heat a Biuret-protein solution to get the color change. It happens naturally within 30 minutes after mixing. The biuret technique for protein is based upon the coordination of cupric ion (Cu++) of the Biuret solution with unshared electron pairs of a protein's nitrogen atoms and water's oxygen atoms. The peptide chain must have at least three amino acids to yield a color complex.

Why does protein and Biuret reagent change from violet to blue when heated?
I think his question is why it changes colour from violet to blue when heated, not the other way round.

Anyway, it's probably because proteins denatures after being exposed to heat. Hence, the Biuret reagent goes back to its original colour (blue) when the Cu2+ ions form with the sulphate ions again.
Reply:I think it has to do with the dye binding to the peptide bonds.

Proteins=polypeptides

I may be wrong on this (it's been a while since I took chemistry), but I think the more peptides there are to bind to, the more defined the color change.

Are African Violet plants poisonous to cats?

Someone just gave me an African Violet plant and I want to make sure it is not dangerous for cats because I know mine WILL eat it

Thanks!

I know this is pretty specific- but I'm hoping someone happens to know the answer

Are African Violet plants poisonous to cats?
The link below has a list of all plants that are poisonous to your cat. A quick glance does not show the African Violet, but you may want to do a more thorough look-through yourself, both for it and for any other houseplant you may have.

%26lt;edit%26gt; In fact, the African Violet is definitely listed on the second link, non-toxic plants!

Good luck and happy blooming!!
Reply:Here are some sites you can check out. If you can't find the violets- call your vet and double check with them. I'm guessing that they probably are toxic to cats. Hope this helps and have a great day!!!

Ah, person above me had the same idea.
Reply:I heard that they were poisonous. Call your vet and ask them.
Reply:just go to the veterinarian and get antivenom. when you see your cats eyes turn violet give the cat a generous injection (but not to the cats eyes). try the cats bumpis.
Reply:I have several African Violets and first of all, I don't think my cats have ever even paid any attention to them. Second I've never heard anything about them being harmful to animals. I really don't think they would be interested in the fuzzy leaves. I'm sure you're safe.

How do you induce a Bromilliad to bloom? also same for African Violet?

Take an apple, put the plant and and apple in a plastic bag for a week. The ethelene gas from the apple will induce it to bloom. Use African violet food for the african violet, and make sure it has enough light. Your plants will love you! :) Arum

How do you induce a Bromilliad to bloom? also same for African Violet?
http://www.heirloomgardenexperts.com/pdf...

this will tell you exactly....the fun part is after the bloom and the pups start showing up to be the new mother plants

African violets require a lot of care and knowledge...here is a wonderful PFD

http://www.hort.purdue.edu/ext/HO-10.pdf...
Reply:The apple method works; also, just old-fashioned time and patience. As the bromeliad finishes its life cycle, it has in the meantime produced an offshoot. As this new plant matures, the mother plant dies, and the new plant takes over. It is then relatively easy to remove the original plant. Then restabilize the new plant in the medium, ensure that its natural "saucer" is filled with water and kept that way, and a bloom will be forthcoming. Then the entire process starts again. African violets go into periods of prolific bloom, lasting at least several weeks, then they must remain dormant in order to have resources for the next flush of bloom. Every living thing must undergo a rest period, in order to maintain itself and to produce vegetative growth which produces its own food to keep itself alive. If the plant has sufficient light, has a proper growing medium in the appropriate size pot and its fertilizer requirements have been met, soon you will see blossoms arising from the crown. Always carefully remove spent blossoms so that it does not produce seed pods which would rob it of energy needed for bloom. The seeds produced would probably not amount to anything in a residential setting anyway. Good luck.

African violet dying - How to revive!?

1 month ago, I've left my african violet with my neighbour while I was on holiday. Instructed not to water from top, but I think she has forgotten! Now my precious plant has withering leaves, soft, brown and looking very sick. How to revive it? Please help!

African violet dying - How to revive!?
Hi,

I've had the same things happen to me at times.

I tried saving to plants by re-potting, dousing with chemicals, trimming and dunking affected plants in hydrogen peroxide.

When all said was done with limited results, I end up most times, just taking cuttings and tried starting new plants.

I also am an avid fan of the websites shown below, because the people over there offer tips and advice that I have found useful specific, and in general.

Take a look/see at the sites, you may find many helpful answers.

Hope this helps, and best of results to you,

Dave
Reply:add some sugar to the mix of water you are giving it. also remove any really brown looking leaves.
Reply:Few steps to take:

- remove all dead material;

- repot the plant in sterile/clean potting soil;

- use "Vitamin B1" after you plant it into clean soil;

- apply a light systemic fungicide to the plant because I ultimately believe that the plant is suffering some rot -- try Spectrum Immunox or do a search on a systemic fungicide - apply at a medium dose - this should clear up any rot which the plant has taken up

If all else fails -- before doing any of the above; try to salvage a few of the AViolet leaves -- plant/pin them into sterile potting soil and try to propogate new plants from them -- even if the original plant does not survive you can keep the "lineage" of the plant alive by growing babies from the original stock.
Reply:Remove all dead or dying leaves and repot the remaining fresh with some good potting compost.
Reply:Another reason to keep in mind is the fact that they do not like to be moved from a location is has been used to. So what ever else you do is fine but put the plant in its old location.
Reply:haha people always water the tops of those things.

i would try repotting it with nice soil, and giving it a good amount of sunshine
Reply:Remove the brown leaves. Give the plant mild dose of fertilizer. You can also try starting new ones if you have any good leaves left. (cut central veins, lay leaf on potting soil)

good luck
Reply:I am in indoor landscaping specialist and i take care of quite a few african violets. I agree completely with reynwater. Trim any dead or dying leaves, mild fertalizer, maybe a little b-1, and you could try superthrive if you can find it. I would take cuttings (1 leaf cut at the base of the leaf's stem) and bury it half in new soil. the more cuttings the better chance that a nice new plant will grow, though africal violets take root easily. also, i would definitely not repot the whole plant as repotting causes much stress and you risk losing the plant all together.
Reply:I would remove any dead from the plant and repot it into new African violet soil and if you have a few good leaves left cut one off, place the stem, right up to the leaf part into the soil and water, adding nothing else!! Place next to a window. Hopefully one of these will survive, maybe both. I have grown these for years, won many blue ribbons at the fair, and never put anything but water on them. I also water from the top on most of them, but trying to avoid spilling water on the leaves. Your neighbor might have overwatered, killing the root, and the main plant might die anyway, but maybe you can get one started. Just be patient with the leaf and soon you will see little leaves popping out of the soil.

What's a similar product to Redken Color Injection Red/Violet?

It seems like everything i try either doesn't have enough pigment or isn't bright enough! Any suggestions?

What's a similar product to Redken Color Injection Red/Violet?
You should try De lorenzo my friend has red hair and she used that it's really strong and has a lot of pigment does a great job.

I've been seeing purple and violet everywhere almost every minute does it mean anything?

They kinda stand out more and it's been acting up these days. Purple stains, purple cars, violet signs, purple clothes, purple %26amp; violet everywhere. In only minutes I see purple and/or violet popping up somewhere (example: I look up and see a purple car then a couple of minutes late there's a lady in a purple shirt.) It's the same with violet.

What do you think of the name Iris Violet for a girl?

Both names are lovely -- and I especially adore underused Iris ;) -- but I'd avoid using two floral names together.

Perhaps you could tweak it a bit, so as to eliminate one literal flower reference? Iris Viola, for example? Or possibly even use a name similar to Iris that happens to have a "violet" meaning -- Iole, Iola, Iolanthe or Ianthe, for instance. :)

I wouldn't pair both Iris and Violet, however, but (again) great names separately!

Ps. Be especially careful with "Violet Iris." It sounds like you're describing eye color. LOL

Is gentian violet safe to give a baby for thrush and how should I go about applying it? How many times a day?

Some doctors question the safety of gentian violet, and it can be hard to find. Plus it's messy and stains.

It may be the only thing that works for you, but I'd try everything else first.

My younger daughter was born with an asymptomatic thrush infection and developed a poor latch, which passed the infection to me. It got into my milk ducts and everything. It was AWFUL. (Both my babies were born via C-section, and this was WAY worse than surgery or recovery.) It hurt to shower, to wear a bra, to not wear a bra, to hug my toddler, to wear a seat belt, to shower...She would wake up crying because she wanted to nurse, and I would cry, too.

We tried nystatin. We tried a specially compounded nipple cream with antibiotic and antifungal properties. We tried Lotrimin. I tried just letting everything air dry and keeping really, really clean. We boiled everything that went into her mouth (except the boob!) between feedings. Nothing made any difference.

Eventually, we did a 21-day course of Diflucan, which FINALLY knocked out the infection. The pharmacist looked at me funny, since the normal course for a vaginal yeast infection (the usual reason for a Diflucan prescription) is a single day. But I was way past caring. And it worked.

I've also heard that grapefruit oil can help, but I'd consult a pediatrician before trying it.

A lactation consultant or a counselor from LaLeche League can help.

Is gentian violet safe to give a baby for thrush and how should I go about applying it? How many times a day?
no. see ur dr.
Reply:Your pediatrician is the best one to ask this question . . . not yahoos at yahoo . . .
Reply:This is the best stuff, at least for me! I used a Q-tip to apply in babies mouth right after feeding, and then applied it on me with other side of Q-tip....I cut out all sugar and this cured Thrush in a week! Nothing else worked. Apply it after every feeding. Yes, it stains but it's worth getting rid of the stuff... also you only need a little in the babies mouth only enough to cover the gums, you don't want them swallowing any or a lot if you can help it. I called a lactation specialist...looked it up in the phone book. This is wicked stuff...you have to treat the yeast everywhere...if you get my drift...using creams and whatever you can to get rid of it, or it will come back.
Reply:My son had thrush I did research and it may cause oral cancer. I gave my son nystatin prescribed by his pediatrician and it helped a lot. Good luck.
Reply:don't use it....it stains a dark purple, that takes forever to fade away. just go to the doctor. thrush is a yeast infection.
Reply:consult your doctor, if you want naturall than go to LLL
Reply:Talk with your doctor first.

Regardless of what method you use, you must treat yourself and your baby. If you don't do that, you'll just pass the infection back and forth.
Reply:Yes.

You can apply to your nipples and then let baby nurse.

Or you can use a q=tip in baby's mouth.

Make sure to treat BOTH of you if you are nursing or you'll just pass it back and forth.
Reply:for any infant meds consult your doctor first.. and most thrush meds are swish and swallow... so once again.. ask your pediatrician..

What should I feed my african violet and how often, I don't have any flowers?

Either lack of fertilizer or too infrequent feeding is one of the reasons for lack of blossoms. Most growers use a "soil-less" potting mix with little nutrient content; this requires using a dilute fertilizer solution each time the plant is watered.

Peters 12-36-14 is our recommendation. Mix 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water and use this mixture each time you water. Use "Natures Miracle" sprinkled over the top of the soil every 10 weeks. This will increase the amount of blooming by 4 times.

More can be found at: http://www.african-violets.com/tips.htm

What should I feed my african violet and how often, I don't have any flowers?
use african violet food make sure it gets the morning sunlight and never under any circumstances pour water on the leaves or flowers water it from the root up
Reply:I don't feed my African violets. I just water them from the bottom. I pick my plants up out of roomy decorator pots, pour in some water 1/2 inch and then set the plant back down into it. Water again when I feel the dirt is dry (about a week). Protect from direct sunlight but they like south windows. Flowers come soon enough. Don't worry. Rotate often, they turn towards the light and don't water or touch their leaves. Pinch out ugly leaves and dried up blossoms. If you must then dust with a soft brush.
Reply:Feeding african violets is tricky... first you have to get them to smoke some weed so they get the munchies, then you get them dump chips and leftover pizza on them !
Reply:Garden Centers have food speciafically for african violets.
Reply:You can sow animal feces like cow feces around the flower and you can do that onces month, it's minimal, and pour water over flower twice times in the day morning and evening.

I am african american and i dyed my hair permanent violet black. do i have to bleach it to dye it purple?

i have a permenant dye but you can't really see any violet in my hair so i wanted to get a semi permenant dye in a light purple but i'm afraid i would have to bleach it. if i did bleach my hair what would happen once the purple washed out? would my hair just be bleached blonde?

I am african american and i dyed my hair permanent violet black. do i have to bleach it to dye it purple?
I have always been told by my mother and stylist to never put permanent dye in my hair because it is too harsh and could cause breakage. So with that said

I would suggest not to bleach your hair because when the purple washes out it will probably look orangey-yellowish. And that's not a cute look on most black girls. But it could be cute on you...who knows.

If you have the opportunity to go to a beauty salon, I would recommend that because my best friend has had major problems with her hair (she was the one with orangey-yellowish hair) because of her at home dye jobs.

Why are the colors of the rainbow only red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet?

What about bronze, silver, gold, tourqouise, etc...

Why are the colors of the rainbow only red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet?
pure while light breaks up into those colours because of refraction. those are also the colours that every other colour is made up of, because of reflected light. example... a black car is black because the pigments absorb all the color from the light and reflect none, a red car absorbs all but red and you see the colour that is reflected. white is nothing absorbed and all reflected. that is an over simplified explanation. there are also varying degrees as to how they are reflected.
Reply:red orange green blue indigo violet
Reply:Roy G. Biv
Reply:Actually, the colors of the rainbow are: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. ROY G BIV. It depends upon the angle of the viewer, but the result is the color spectrum being visible due to light passing through water droplets. I'm linking a decent explanation.
Reply:It must be because other things are green, blue, red etc.

Does anyone have a list of the colour of lead glass from late 17C to 19C when seen under ultra violet light?

I am trying to identify a glass vase which appears to be late 17C, and if I knew the various colour tones of flint or lead glass over the two centuries under UV light, I could compare it with other glass items in my collection. The shape of the vase is not recorded anywhere, yet it has all the signs of being circa 1680. I have sent photos to museums, but even they have admitted defeat.

What alcohol goes well with violet? Something I could put in gelatin mousse?

~ They would go very well with a vanilla rum or vanilla brandy. Violets have a very delicate flavor and you don't want to overpower that with a heavy flavor. A white chocolate mousse with a vanilla rum would be fantastic with violets.

What about Drambuie? (Scottish liqueur made by fermenting honey)? That sounds perfect.

Can I keep more than one dragon fish or violet gobi in a 50 gallon aquarium?

Yes you can. Just make sure your water is impeccably clean and that you have PLENTY of salt in there for them. And don't forget the hiding places!

These guys have a tendency to starve to death (especially if they're in a tank with other species of fish) so make sure you actually see them eating their food. Frozen brine shrimp and frozen bloodworms (and really any other kind of frozen worm) are an ideal diet for them.

Can I keep more than one dragon fish or violet gobi in a 50 gallon aquarium?
I would guess by your question that these are aggressive fish. I don't know this type for sure, but the general rule of thumb for aggressive fish is: if they have enough room and things to separate them (plants, rocks, etc) and they are fed WELL, they will leave each other alone. If they get the slightest bit hungry, or feel the need to fight for territory, they will kill each other.
Reply:Although it may seem safe because it is suff a big area, it probably is not a good idea. no matter how far apart they are from each other, they are bound to pick fights, and especially since they are fighting fish( thay are arent they?) it is not such a great idea. You can ask a pet store employee to double chech, but i doubt that they will say tht it is alright.

Does the violet conditioner work as good as the violet shampoo shimmer lights?

Great Question!!!

I have used violet shampoo many times when I highlighted my hair and it turned out too brassy or too white. But, I never noticed a difference when I used the conditioner. It just wasn't "purple" enough to cover the brassiness, nor mute the white tones. What I have found to be the best for muting these tones is "Fanci-Full". This is a "leave on" rinse that you apply directly on your damp hair. It comes in a liquid and a mousse. The mousse works much better as it it easier to apply. The liquid is very runny and it can run down your hands before you are able to get it in your hair-- but, it still works great.

Good luck!

Does the violet conditioner work as good as the violet shampoo shimmer lights?
we have found that the conditioner doesnt really condition. We are merely using it to take the redness out of our hair. the shampoo is great though

What color has more energy, red or violet light?

Why

What color has more energy, red or violet light?
Photon Energy is given by

E = hc/L where h is planks constant, c is the speed of light and L is the wavelength. So the Energy per photon goes up as the wavelength goes down. Violet light has the shorter wavelength.
Reply:The energy of light goes up as the frequency goes up. Violet light has a higher frequency than red light thus violet light has more energy.
Reply:Violet light.

The sun have a violet light so the violet light is stronger than red light.
Reply:e=mc^2 so if c were the speed of light,, lets try this differantly. Light energy is measured in Photons and

ulta violate light which has a higher frequancy on the light

spectrum also has more photons
Reply:Wow.

Everyone except rscanner is wrong.

Violet light has more energy - not red!
Reply:red has a longer wavelength, violet has the shorter wavelength. they both have the same enery though
Reply:violet light. Energy = wavelength * frequency. the frequency is the same and wavelenght of red is about 700nm and of violet it is about 400nm. so red has more energy
Reply:Ofcourse........red...
Reply:i think it is red. i believe that since it has a shorter wavelength that it has more energy

How do you know if the ultra violet light is filtered from a light bulb?

The manufacturer may be able to supply you with the spectral analysis for a particular light source. For example flourescent bulbs use UV to cause phosphors to emit light and may absorb most or all the UV in the process.

How do you know if the ultra violet light is filtered from a light bulb?
If the bulb is made of glass then it probably is. Glass blocks most UV light. Blacklight bulbs are made from crystal instead of glass to allow the UV to pass through.
Reply:Typical tungsten light bulbs produce light much closer to the infra-red end of the spectrum than to the ultra-violet end.

I'm getting married in April, and for my favors I'm giving my guests a small potted African Violet.?

I just have two questions, 1 when should I start growing ( I'm trying it from seed)? and 2 I have read so many different ways to grow them I'm lost! PLEASE HELP!!

I'm getting married in April, and for my favors I'm giving my guests a small potted African Violet.?
if you are growing them now i doubt you will have a full plant by april...i do not know anyone who has tried these by themselves by seed... why not buy them in bulk and on a violet covered stock card through your printer with nice font attach care instructions for each guest?
Reply:African violets hate getting their leaves wet, and don't like wet 'feet', otherwise everyone else's advice above is right on the target. Be careful of plants from large home centers, make sure they have been properly watered, soil has not drawn away from edges of pots, lift one out and make sure roots are not brown or dark tan, no bugs(white flies), and there is no root rot. CongratulationS!
Reply:My advice if you really want to give your guests african violets is go buy them. It is Feb 18 and you have less than two months and you can not grow african violets that fast. And starting from seed is not smart. The best way is to propigate leaves from full size plant and plant leaf into soil and let it grow from there. Even then you wouldn't have enough time to have nice, full plant.

Our Walmart carries two sizes of African violet plants...one is smaller and is around $1.50 and the other is $3.00.

If you don't want to spend the money then I would be rethinking giving each guest a plant.
Reply:I agree. From seed there is a much bigger risk that none of them will come out. Try buying a few plants, taking their leaves off and either putting them in water until roots form or planting them straight into soil.

If all else fails, try what we did at my wedding. Since we had people traveling from all over, we chose the 'state' flower from my hubby's province (he's from Canada) which is an iris and mine (california) which is a poppy. We took the bulb and seeds and put them in a nice package for people to plant in their own gardens. Then when the flowers grew in the spring and summer, they would think of us.

Good luck and congratulations

Why do bodily fluids expose themself under ultra violet light?

Why do bodily fluids such as saliva or sperm glow under a black light? and why not (to the best of my knowledge) sweat?

Why do bodily fluids expose themself under ultra violet light?
hmmm

i'm guessing that some proteins are photoreactive - i'm sure somone in the physics section could enlighten you more on that one.

as for sweat - it's just a mixture of water, salt and urea, so there is no protein in it.

incidentaly - you need special uv lights for protein, not just any old light, i used one at the hospital - it's amazing how many stains i have on my hands that i can't see!

How often are children born with violet coloured eyes?

65% of kids are born with it, they just end up changing color to something else but if I'm not mistaken about 0.0015% keep their violet color. So that's about 1 out of every 100,000 people

How often are children born with violet coloured eyes?
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_color#V...
Reply:Eye colour depends upon the amount and type of pigments that are present in the eye's iris. Three main elements within the iris contribute to its color:

1.The melanin content of the iris pigment epithelium,

2. The melanin content within the iris stroma, and

3. The cellular density of the iris stroma.

The appearance of violet eyes is thought to occur from the mixing of red and blue reflections.

Since eye colour is a polygenic trait, it is inherited and is influenced by more than one gene.

Violet eye colour is not common and is very rare.. Sometimes, eyes of an albino also may appear to be violet...

Where does the term "shrinking violet" come from?

I know there had to be something prior to the DC comic character. Is it just common usage for a shy person or is there another origin?

When all wavelengths of light are present and there are no gaps from extreme red to extreme violet this is?

when all wavelengths of light are present and there are no gaps from extreme red to extreme violet this is called _______?

on word anwser please

When all wavelengths of light are present and there are no gaps from extreme red to extreme violet this is?
"black-body radiation" or perhaps a "continuous spectrum".
Reply:"White".

The color white is what you see when all colors are present.
Reply:ahhhhh!
Reply:Spectrum.
Reply:white light anyone?
Reply:The illusion of white light but more specifically completely non-coherent light. A laser is an example of coherent light in the fact that it generally only emits light in a set wavelenth hence the single color this is esspecially important to note in lasers that emit green light from a solid state source because the pumping diode is usually in the near-ir range and all solid state green lasers are slightly incoherent due to 808nm leakage.
Reply:i like the white light answer

(it's not a laser)

Can the ultra violet light in a tanning bed still hurt your eye balls if you keep your eyes closed?

I don't tan to often but I hate those little glasses. A friend of mine says if you keep your eyes closed it's ok. I don't know about that....

Can the ultra violet light in a tanning bed still hurt your eye balls if you keep your eyes closed?
Your friend is wrong. They have you wear those glasses for a reason. Even if your eyes are shut the rays can harm your eyes. The glasses put a solid barrier (which eyelids are not) between your eyes and the harmful rays.

I suggest a different type of eye protection. The ones I have are just the part the goes over the eye, no part that goes over the bridge of my nose. There are two, they are small eye shaped cup things. I got mine at a tanning supply place. Maybe you could check your area for similar items. I like mine alot.

Good luck and tan safe!
Reply:Your eyes can definitley get damaged from the UV lights of a tanning bed...even if your eyes are closed. Your eyelids are not thick enough to block the UV light. I used to work at a tanning salon and saw some pretty disturbing pics in one of the owner's tanning magazine of the possible outcomes of not wearing the tanning goggles.
Reply:just ask your self how your eyeball beeng cook, you wnated done or well done
Reply:YES.

I lost my vision for three days from 11 minutes without goggles. Thought keeping my eyes closed was enough.

Now I have permanent damage and have trouble driving at night.
Reply:i would worry more about the rest of your body parts getting cooked like sausage
Reply:dunno, but the question you should be asking yourself is do i like my eggs fried or scrambled?
Reply:Use those little sticker things that they give u.

Sry thats all all I know 2 do.

I went in 1 once and they tell u 2 wear the stickers so i did.

I'd rather wear those then hurt my eyes.
Reply:it will be alright and youl get your eyelids taned to lol.
Reply:NO NO NO NO NO! WEAR GOGGLES!

The skin of your eyelids is too thin, the light passes right through.

You can get little individual eye covers, theyre like the goggles without a nose piece or strings. but they must fit your eyes right or they dont work. But if they fit you, they are much more comfy, and dont leave any raccoon markings.

Also, try using goggles without the string, you can just lay them on your eyes if they cover well. or wink ease, those work okay too, although i think theyre always too big and leave a noticable white mark.

ALWAYS wear something. ALWAYS.
Reply:No, the UV rays that damage your eyes easily penetrate your eyelids, closing your eyes will not help.
Reply:If you do it 4-5 times a year, it will barely damage your lids and the only thing you'll have to worry about is swelling eye lids. Why don't you go for a spray tan or an airbrush tan? They even tell you that those goggles aren't required. Plus it isn't wrinkle or cancer causing.
Reply:It's not ok, in order to fully protect your eyes now and in the future, you need to wear the stupid little goggles. (I hate them too)!
Reply:UV light damages cellular tissue. There are UV filters that radiate water to kill microbes, so it would kill tissue as well. Not to get into too much science but UV light affects you at the electron/atomic level.

Wear the glasses so you don't cook your eyeballs.

Here's more proof:

"High intensities of UVB light are hazardous to the eyes, and exposure can cause welder's flash (photokeratitis or arc eye) and may lead to cataracts, pterygium[2] [3], and pinguecula formation.

Protective eyewear is beneficial to those who are working with or those who might be exposed to ultraviolet radiation, particularly short wave UV. Given that light may reach the eye from the sides, full coverage eye protection is usually warranted if there is an increased risk of exposure as in high altitude mountaineering. Mountaineers are exposed to higher than ordinary levels of UV radiation, both because there is less atmospheric filtering and because of reflection from snow and ice.

Ordinary eyeglasses give some protection, and most plastic lenses give more protection than glass lenses. Some plastic lens materials, such as polycarbonate, block most UV. There are protective treatments available for eyeglass lenses that need it to give better protection. Most intraocular lenses help to protect the retina by absorbing UV radiation."

HELP ME! How do I remove violet ink from my baby pink bag??
Try dabbing the stain with some rubbing alcohol.:)
Reply:sodium perborate poultice, please refer to link and scroll down to the ink stains section.
Reply:OK... Do you really want to keep its color? Because your only option if you haven't tried washing it is to bleach your bag so it is all white.

Why the sky look blue although violet has an even smaller wavelength than blue ?

since blue light has a smaller wavelength than red, it is scattered more than red and hence the sky looks blue. but violet has an even smaller wavelength than blue. then why does not the sky look violet

Why the sky look blue although violet has an even smaller wavelength than blue ?
Because oxygen molecules scatter blue light and NOT violet

A simple way to describe what happens would be to say that the air molecules, which are about 0.0004 millimeters in diameter, are very close in size to the waves of blue light. Other colours have bigger or smaller waves, and mostly pass right through, but the blue light waves hit the air molecules and scatter in all directions. As the sunlight comes down through the atmosphere, the blue light in it gets scattered all over the place. Some of this scattered light (there's a lot of it) reaches our eyes, making the sky seem blue. The sunlight that's left that finally reaches the ground has lost most of its blue light, leaving it yellowish in colour, so the sun itself appears yellow.
Reply:I believe it is because violet bends too much and so is not scattered in as wide a range as blue.
Reply:The eye is relatively insensitive to violet light but more sensitive to green light than the shorter wavelengths. Although there may be relatively more violet in the mix, the fact that there is also lots of green counteracts the tendency of the scattered light's hue toward violet.

I know that blue fire is hotter than yellow fire. Is there such thing as a fire color as violet hot fire?

Is violet hot flame the hottest colored fire? What's the temperature range for violet hot fire?

I know that blue fire is hotter than yellow fire. Is there such thing as a fire color as violet hot fire?
If it is hot enough maybe it will burn Ultraviolet? However I imagine that no material can burn that hot. But explosions and other astronomy events produce Ultraviolet and Xrays, which can be interpretted as extremely hot temperatures.
Reply:I don't think there is ever a violet hot fire, but I do know that when potassium is ignited it burns violet.
Reply:The color of fire depends on what is being burned (or subjected to sufficient heat.) Sodium, yellow. Potassium, purple (or violet.) Copper, green. Barium, red. Etc. Check each of these substances over a Bunsen burner,

How to draw Count Olaf; Violet; Klaus; and Sunny Baudelaire?

A website is ok to,but please give it quick its for a project!!

How to draw Count Olaf; Violet; Klaus; and Sunny Baudelaire?
I'd say just take one of the books and start by tracing the pictures. After you've gotten the hang of his style a bit, you can try drawing a few of your own characters in the style of Brett Helquist. I've tried too. I like the way he draws the characters.

If you want to see how someone else imitated his style, here's a youtube video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjJMxzsjI...

I'm sorry but I couldn't find anything with an actual tutorial of how to draw the characters. You can look for ideas from fanart online too, if you want.

here's one of my favorite fanartists online:

Good luck!
Reply:when i draw i print out a picture after sizing it. So look up pictures of them and print them. Then once I have them I use a grid system. Where I measure it out then I pick my scale. On almost all of my drawings I use a 1 inch scale. Then on my paper I draw the box using the measurements of the outside of the drawing. Do my scale same way 1 inch. And I draw whatever I see in each box. When I am done i go over it in pen and then erase all of my lines. Finish shading and BAM im done.
Reply:If it's for an art project I suggest google searching pics, print them the size you want, then draw close to that.

If not I would just trace it. :/

Has anyone ever heard of a candy bar called Violet Crunch?

There was a store near my work that sold them for a limited time, and they were yummy. Now, I cannot find them anywhere. If anyone knows who makes them or where they are available I would apprciate the information.

Thank you

I think you mean violet crumble, I haven't seen them in a while but they are yummy, here: http://www.candydirect.com/candybars/Vio...
Reply:They're an import from Australia. My friend used to live in Australia and she freaks out when she finds one, so I don't think they're very easy to come by unless you order them.

Try an import store, like Cost Plus World Market or Trader Joe's.
Reply:I'm not sure where you live but I could swear I saw those at my local Cost Plus World Market in the section where the sell candy from the UK! Is that the one with chocolate on the outside and like a crunchy honey center? Good Luck.....are you sure it's not Violet Crumble?

How long does it take for a baby african violet plant to flower?

It depends on what you mean by a baby African violet.

From seed it can take up to a year.

From a leaf you can have blooms in 4 to 6 months

From a sport/sucker it can be 3 to 6 months

What are the evidences to support that +ultra+violet radiation are dangerous to our health?

Sunburns and skin cancer...

What are the evidences to support that +ultra+violet radiation are dangerous to our health?
Severe sunburn and melanoma.

However, SOME UV radiation is necessary for our skin to manufacture vitamin D, thus preventing a calcium-deficiency disease called rickets.

What is the oldfashioned, highly fragrant flower that grows as bush rather than individual plant-violet,lilac?

Lilacs are very fragrent and grow on a bush. Lilacs are most popular in purple and white. If you'd like to see a photo to see if those are what you are speaking about, go here:

What is the oldfashioned, highly fragrant flower that grows as bush rather than individual plant-violet,lilac?
Definitely lavender. The stuff your grandmother probably had dried in sachets... I love it.
Reply:yes i think lavender as well....
Reply:Lilacs can grow as bushes or as running vines. Lavender grows in a cluster that appears bush-like. Both types of flowers can be used to make sachets or as cut flowers. Unfortunately lilacs can take years to bloom, have a short bloom time, and can be quite temperamental. Lavender is actually very easy to grow and is a perennial. It also grows wild.
Reply:Sounds like lavender to me!
Reply:It could be the Butterfly Bush. It has a really great aroma.

good luck on ur wedding
Reply:I would go with the light shade of orange. I think that the orange will give it more of light summery feel. I think that pairing up the Stargazer lilies with some light orange roses would look lovely together - especially if you are doing a cascading bridal bouquet.
Reply:to me (floral designer) pink and violet remind me of Easter....i would definitely go pink and the orange, I have done this and it's different and beautiful! like the summer sunset!!! blessings to you and your marriage....
Reply:Actually, the pink and orange sounds very intriguing! You don't see that very often, and it could look really beauitful, and different! As long as you think it works well, then I'd go with that. Congrats, btw, and all the best!!
Reply:If your using stargazers, I would go with burgnady..Since the center of the stargazer goes into that shade it would really make thing pop.. A touch of yellow would really look good with it as well..
Reply:ohh pink and violet sounds nice And summery :)

that would be my vote.. orange may be kinda a eye Catcher! and on that day the bride is supposed to be the eye Catcher :)
Reply:Pink and orange! Like the rainbow sherbet orange. That would be pretty.
Reply:For a light orange, you could use peach or a coral color. That would look really pretty.
Reply:pink and violet
Reply:Pink and violet sounds very pretyy!!!! i like it alot
