What is the difference between purple and violet?

Purple and violet are the same color. Some will say that violet is a lighter version of purple, or that it is a bluer version of purple. In all honesty they are the same. It seems that violet is the overall consensus when talking about that color, only because it works better in naming other colors, like violet-red and violet-blue. In the end, just call it violet.

:) Hope this helps.
