My violet is wilting, new leaves are are turning brown and become thin at the edges. Why?

Sounds like the soil is salinized, so the plant can't take up water well. Repot in fresh soil,. be less generous with fertilizer.

Kay knows how to grow African Violets.

When you start to see a leaf turning brown go ahead and pinch it off as close to the stem as possible, this will give you a peek under those leaves and you can see the soil starting to get an ashy whiteness to it. You'll get a jump on the problem before it gets any worse.

Sometimes by moving the leaves around to get a dead one you actually give air a chance to circulate under the leaves and over the soil, releasing some of the staleness from the soil.
