If astronomers were to observed a violet shift for a certain star what would they infer?

Due to the doppler effect light from the star would be 'squash' thus shifted to the short wavelength end of the spectrum therefore the star would be moving towards us.

However as the big bang was an explosion suggest all objects in the universe are moving outward with the expansion very little stars we see are doppler shift towards the violet spectrum except the ones within a smaller radi of the centre of the universe than us.

If astronomers were to observed a violet shift for a certain star what would they infer?
Violet I think is a colour above blue in a rainbow, hence the name violet shift would be appropriate for the spectrum with its lines shifted towards shorter wavelengths. Astronomers then would conclude that this star is moving towards us.
Reply:Its moving towards them, or they are moving towards it, or both.

Its called the doppler effect.
Reply:The distance between the star and Earth is decreasing.
