Check out Consumer Reports Magasine for their ratings on water purifiers. The machine should have a silver (metal), filter to kill bacteria and retard build up of the slimy biofilms. (or some other equally effective anti-microbial method). The device should be cleaned out, as per manufacturers instrucions, or the machine will eventually be worse than no filtration at all.

Reply:It would depend on the size of the unit and if it supplied more than one water tap (outlet). It would also depend upon whether you could get a good, locally made machine. Or upon shipping costs and import duties. Check your local yellow pages.

Reply:I live in italy and use the brita purifier that attaches to the faucet. It seems to work just fine. It has a 4 step cleaning system. When it needs replacing, I simply get a replacement filter but keep the hardware in place. The filters are like 19 american dollars, the unit set for the initial buy is about 28.
