What is your definition of a person that is described as a "Shrinking Violet?"?

This is my best friend....she has no backbone when it comes to her (adult, she's in her late 30's) daughter, she lets her use and abuse her and never stands up for herself because she's so scared of this Monster she created.


So I call her by the nickname "Violet." This infuriates her, maybe someday it will infuriate her enough to stand up to the b*tch......I can only hope.

What is your definition of a person that is described as a "Shrinking Violet?"?
i don't consider your friend a violet. just no backbone. a shrinking violet is someone that goes out with friends and just doesn't like to talk to others, including her friends, except on a one to one basis.

Reply:I think of a shrinking violet as someone who is shy. Who hunches over and retreats instead of participating. I don't think of what you describe as a shrinking violet. I'd call her a Wuss!

Reply:No, only amusing ones. Like the time I nearly stepped on a turkey hiding behind a bush (no, not George and Dick. Sorry.) or the time I almost walked into a buck, or when I was on the A.T. at Buzzard's Peak, Maryland and when I reached the top, there was sitting — what else — a buzzard. Wild. Literally!
