Why do some people have violet eyes?

Is it a birth defect, or just a genetic thing or what?

Why do some people have violet eyes?
Violet eyes are usually thought to occur due to the mixing of red and blue reflections. Some albino children, who have very little or no pigmentation in their eyes have a violet or red eye colour. I would not call it a birth 'defect', just a different, rare eye colour. However, violet eyes are not the striking deep purple of contact lenses and are, instead, a kind of gray/ blue colour.

If you want a more detailed, scientific explanation, red irides are a result of albinism, where there is no melanin in the melanocytes at all. Therefore all of the blood vessels (in the iris and retina) are seen and a redder appearance is given. In practice only very few albinos have red eyes, the blue reflections of the collagen show up stronger and so most have blue/grey or even brown. The mixing of red and blue reflections can also give rise to violet eyes.
Reply:The appearance of violet eyes is thought to occur due to the mixing of red and blue reflections.[43] Some albinos have eyes that appear to be violet.[44] Elizabeth Taylor is said to have "Violet Eyes" and this is sometimes referred to as a unique or distinguishing characteristic (or "trademark") of hers.
Reply:It is a sign of fantastically high IQ.
