We have 3 types of cones in our eyes: red, green and blue. How do we perceive the color violet?

Haven't you noticed that violet seems dim compared to blue? That's because only the blue cones are reporting it, but the green cones report a little when blue light hit them.

Violet is a combination of blue and red.
Reply:Violet light is a mixture of red and blue. So both the red cones and the blue cones detect that wavelength. The combination of those two signals tells the brain what the color is.
Reply:All other colors besides red yellow and blue are a combination of the others. I think the basic colors are red blue and yellow instead of green 'cause green is a mixture of yellow and blue.
Reply:Blue and red mixed equals violet.
