Is it normal to have violet eyes?

My sister Rae has violet eyes and has her whole life. Is that normal????!!!??

Genetically, it is blue eyes. Nothing more than a variation of a shade of blue. There is not a gene for "violet".

Reply:Is she by chance an albino? There was something I read about some albinos having a mix of red (because of the nonpigmentation, red blood vessels in the eyes) and blue eyes. I wish I had purple eyes, purple is my favorite color. Your sister is very lucky in my opinion.

It is normal for people of African descent from Papua New Guinea to have violet eyes. I also seen some Inca Indian and African people in Brazil with the same colored eyes as you describe and I think English too.

Reply:Not common, but not abnormal. When people list possible eye colors they typically include blue, brown, green, grey, hazel...rarely will you hear violet in the list (because they are that rare).

Reply:Violet eyes are normal, but EXTREMELY rare. Personally, I've seen them a few times on albino children, but never on anyone else. They are beautiful.
